“Start doing this and stop complaining about Nigerian leaders” – Catholic archbishop

Ignatius Kaigama, the archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Abuja, has urged Christians not to be tired of seeking God’s intervention for a better society, telling them to avoid complaining about their leaders.

Mr Kaigama disclosed this on Sunday during his first pastoral visit to Saint Joseph Mukasa Catholic Parish, Gidan Mangoro, Abuja.

During the visit, the archbishop administered the sacrament of confirmation on 218 candidates and solemnised sacrament of holy matrimony for 12 couples in the parish.

“This Lenten period is a season of graces and reconciliation with God, grab your graces as we look forward to Easter celebration,” Mr Kaigama advised.

The archbishop said the same way God used Moses to deliver the Israelites, God would also use the religious and anyone who believe in him to make things right.

The Catholic leader also prayed for Nigerian leaders to be like Moses who was a god-fearing, courageous, selfless and focused, used by God to deliver his people to the promise land.

He equally called on Christians to embrace spirit of uprightness and avoid complaints and vices. Instead, he told them them to contribute their quota to the well-being of Nigeria.

He also charged the newly confirmed candidates and wedded couples to keep growing in faith, live exemplary life and allow the holy spirit inherent in the sacraments to bear fruits in them for the benefit of society.

Paschal Ononuju, the parish priest, thanked the archbishop and asked God to strengthen him as he discharged his duty.

“We have been all impressed to help succeed you in your ministry as a representative of Christ in the archdiocese. You are a sign and servant of the unity of the church in Abuja,” said Mr Ononuju.

The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Committee by the archbishop.
