Street preacher stabbed to death as he shared church flyers

A food bank volunteer was fatally stabbed as he tried to hand out leaflets for his church, his heartbroken friends said today.

Mohamed Issa Koroma, known as Chris, 24, was killed in a high street attack on September 17.

Now, in a viral Facebook post, friend Victoria Walker, has revealed that Mohamed was “handing out leaflets inviting people to church” when he was stabbed.

She described the death of the man who regularly helped out at his local homeless shelter, as “a horrific and sad tragedy”.

“During street evangelising he was stabbed,” she wrote.

“He was handing out flyers and inviting people to church.

“Not in a gang. Not a drug dealer.

“He did nothing but hand out leaflets and invite people to know God,” Victoria added.

He died despite efforts from paramedics called to the Sheffield High Street attack

Victoria added: “The family are still traumatised, distraught and in complete heartbreak.

“They have been barely able to comprehend the circumstances around his death and still trying make sense of it all.

“No parent deserves to lose a child in such circumstances.

“As a community, we’re still in deep shock and sadness.

“But we want to ensure we show solidarity, love and unity during this situation.”

Victoria said: “Mohamed regularly helped the homeless at the local soup kitchen.

“He was dedicated to helping the poor, sick, homeless and helpless.

“He had so much humanity.

“His name, story and life should not go in vain.”

To help Mohamed’s family with funeral expenses, an online fundraising appeal has been launched on the Go Fund Me website.

Detectives investigating the killingurged businesses in the city centre to check their CCTV cameras and motorist to look at their dashcams for any footage recorded around the time of the incident.

James Lee, 31, of Rotherham, has been charged with murder.

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 585 of September 17.
