There is no department in the church that does not face ridicule. But this does not mean you should leave the department because you are working for God. However, there is one department that is most exposed to ridicule. Ridicule can be defined as unkind words or actions that make someone or something look stupid. Already, you must be guessing what department this could be, while those who belong to this department already know I am referring to them.
The Department which suffers ridicule the most is the USHERING DEPARTMENT
The job of an usher may look cool. In fact, they may look very good-looking in their outfits, but believe me, they are the most respectful, but unfortunately the most disrespected. If you want to know what ridicule really is in the church, join the ushering department.
As an usher, your duty is to welcome people into the church, organize them, tell them where to sit, make sure people are following whatever is being done, help people with important things that may require movement, collecting the offering, counting it (with the treasurer and financial secretary), etc.
But an usher may tell someone where to sit, and the person may just decide to disobey (while everybody is watching), after giving him or her the most beautiful smile. Some people are just used to the practice of disobeying the ushers. While some disobey respectfully, some do it rudely.
Also, when a prayer is going on and you are at the door to make sure nobody is going in or going out, there are some certain people who know the rule but are ready to break it. They intentionally come to the door, and when you do not give them an access, they give you a bad look, and create a way for themselves while others who have chosen to obey are at the door watching. Most times, you just find some people querying you for stopping them and being unable to stop the rude ones. It can be very embarrassing.
There are these naughty kids who would always annoy you when the offering bag is being passed as an usher. They sit somewhere faraway, and they intentionally beckon on you to come for their offering. But on getting there, they will not drop anything but laugh at you. Sometimes, you may be tempted to take these kids out to trash.
And again, there are these people who are only interested in giving you a hard time as an usher. They call you to do things that are outside your duty. For example, some can tell you to help them take their child to the toilet. If you are not outspoken, you may end up doing things like this one. You should turn such things down without being rude. Just make them understand you have your primary duty to carry out. Meanwhile, you are making them to understand that it is not your job.
There are other things aside these ones you face as an usher. But you must always remember that you are working for God, and you should not let it get to you.
