“The School Head Boy Refused To Leave Until Bandits Released The Other Students” – CAN Official Narrates

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna Branch, has narrated the story of the Head Boy of the Bethel Baptist College, who recently got released by bandits after millions of Naira got paid as ransom. Joseph Hayab spoke concerning the incident during his interview on TVC News.

You may recall that 121 students got abducted from the Bethel Baptist College earlier this year. The incident was a topic of discussion across the country at the time. However, a prominent official in the school recently revealed that some of the students abducted from the school are still under captivity.

During his interview, Hayab said, “The bandits recently released one of the abducted students, the school Head Boy. The Head Boy has displayed exemplary leadership, and he insisted on staying in captivity until all the abducted students get released. However, his health started failing, and the bandits decided to release him.

Narrating further, he added, “The bandits did not release the Head Boy unconditionally. They insisted that we had to pay N5 million for the release of each of our students held in their captivity, and there were four students with them (bandits). We gathered some money close to N5 million, and we paid the bandits, but they only released the Head Boy to us, as he was seriously ill. The parents have given all they have to the kidnappers, and they have paid a ‘shocking’ amount of money thus far. Three more students are still in captivity.”
