THE YOUNG MAN WHO PLAYED VICTOR THE FRIEND TO YOUNG MARTIN’S IN ABATTOIR IS ACTUALLY MY SON IN REAL LIFE – KAYODE OWOJORI TALKS TO BEYOND ENTERTAINMENT SHOW WITH PVO ABOUT HIS ROLE AS CHIEF DUROSANYAN IN ABATTOIR

My name is Kayode Owojori, I’m a Christian evangelical drama minister and by the grace of God the husband of one wife and a father of three nations who are doing very well, some of them also in Christian drama ministry and I give the glory to God that I also operate in the office of a pastor, I’m also a consultant in the area of communications development, I work with a couple of agencies all over Nigeria.

As a matter of fact some parents openly said their children would not want to meet me. I have two sets of kids who actually told their dads never to see me again that I was evil,. But the thing is how did I get to that level that people now have to see me as an level person ? It has to do with (laughs) it has to do with delivery. What has been given to me yes just delivery. When dammy called me actually if he had any project he’ll call me way ahead of time so he can put the project in my schedule. And he said daddy this is going to take a long time but we need you to be prepared ahead of time, And I said cool let me have the entire script and he posted it to my e-mail and I saw this character I felt challenged with.

You know I was getting used to playing the regular lovely pastor in movies and then suddenly here comes this character so I had to take time to ingest what really the character was all about and I did that for about three months before we got on location and I was able to capture how I wanted to project the character so I made the directors job easier because after every scene the director would always say daddy great. I worked on the character and God really helped me

I will say one thing that our daddy in the lord daddy Mike Bamiloye said when I was with him and mummy Gloria and he said Bro Kayode the next role you’ll be taking is that of a ritualist, you won’t just be playing pastors (laughs) and when he said that I didn’t know it was gonna come out that way. cos actually to fulfill yourself as an all round they call it multidirectional character you have to be able to portray any role convincingly.

I’m not saying I did it convincingly but I believe that if the kind of reaction we have is anything to go by then the character chief Durosanyan has been justified by the person who played it to a good extent. So to me I just did what was expected of me as if I was playing the role of a pastor that I’ve been used to. Let me also say that by the way of reaction I’ve had people say that they pleaded the blood of Jesus on me saying ; No that’s not the daddy that I know I plead the blood of Jesus on you and I felt its good enough even though it has some negative effect on my person when people meet me physically

In Christian evangelical drama ministry one of the people I respect and look at is Kayode Babalola that man has it in him, he has the carriage, he has the talent he has the ability and he has the spirit , those elements were all present in him. I’ve been on a huge number of projects with him some of them by mountzion some by other ministries and every time we get together we hit it up straight without stress.

In some places my tele prompter was right with him he was holding it while I’m doing my stuff and some of the times when I fell short a little bit he’ll jack me up, he’s that good. So its not really me it is him who gave a boost to the character I was portraying.

I imbibed the character of Chief Durosayan so much that sometimes I felt I was chief Durosanyan. Sometimes I’ll go back after the location and I’ll be purging myself of the elements of Durosanyan.

The guy who played Victor the friend to young Martin’s is actually my son in real life, he’s my first son his name is Samuel Jesuoluwa we call him Sammie Jay Owojori. Sammie Jay has done some works with mountzion this is not his first movie with them. But the clincher for Sammie Jay on Abattoir was that Dammy called him you know he works in Lagos he’s also resident in Lagos. Dammy called him and said Sammie Jay we want you on this project and the challenge for him was how was he going to get off work he works Monday to Saturdays 1, and then he called me and he said two things one, how do I get off work 2 , how do I act the role of a secondary school boy ?

Because Dammy has told me that I was going to remove all my beards and trim down my mustarch , he said I’ve never done that before. Well I told him its you, you just go once you’re ready to sacrifice your beards and mustarch its OK. And he played it clean he went to the barbers, and cropped his hair and mustarch and side buns and boom he was ready.
