The clergyman disclosed that those who manipulate people, make them despise what they have.

Those who seek to manipulate you make you despise what you have, you speak ill of that which you are and have. You despise what the creator has placed in your own hands thinking you have been dealt wrong cards. You are then manipulated out of what you own which is of great value.
