It is barely three weeks since the death of the legendary Evangelist Morris Cerullo. The orphan that God used to impact the world.
It is worthy to note certain occurrences before he died.
It was on Friday, 10th July, about 1:25 pm, as I scrolled through the status of my WhatsApp, I saw a picture post from a contact about a request for supporting prayers to be made for the wife of the evangelist as she was going through a trying time with Morris Cerullo being hospitalized suffering from pneumonia.
To my dismay, as I sat at a wedding ceremony on Saturday, the next day of a pastor friend in Otukpo Benue state; I overheard a couple of pastors sitting beside me discussing how a General in the Kingdom has passed on and a befitting burial is what he deserves to honor him and pay last respect to him as it was done to one of the greatest Evangelist from America, Dr. Billy Graham when he exited this realm. I wondered who could this be?
Upon subsequent findings, I realized it was him who’s a picture I saw the previous day. Evangelist Dr. Morris Cerullo, the traveling missionary.
In 2015, at age 83, Morris toured Africa for 9 days, during which times he held meetings, preaching in 6 African countries, holding training sessions, and meeting with political leaders. He died from complications of pneumonia on 10 July 2020, at age 88.
I was saddened and joyful at the same time at the moment knowing fully, there’s only one place he could be now. In heaven. Yes! Most definitely. I rejoiced with thankfulness to God and prayed for the wife to be strengthened to bear the great loss yet again.
The passing on of this great man of God has been the news trailing every social media last two weeks. We all know his story, how he started a ministry, and how God walked through him in recent decades to reach the world as many of us have been touched. It’s what I don’t want to go into now, as the sole purpose of this article is to reveal certain happenings around him before he passing on.
THE TRIVIAL SHOCK
The evangelist Cerullo, whilst on the hospital bed was very much aware that it was his departure time. So he was not perturbed about the present situation.
It was said by a close relative that Morris asked to see his children and relatives and share his last moment in affectionate embrace of love with them before he finally leaves the scene. I wondered, how could he be so sure?
Then I realized it was not an uncommon reality in the Bible, where men who walked with the LORD in such an intimate fellowship were not taken unawares. His children queried him for such a request, asking why would he be saying such. “I can see the heavenly hosts around me, it’s time for me to go,” he said.
It was a moment of tears for everyone at his sickbed as they were all grieved upon knowing that his death was a reality they are left with no option but to come to terms with. Even though his family and the body of Christ would be touched at his exit, it’s needful for him to rest in the Lord as it’s time for him to leave.
It’s only a few persons, especially God’s servants that their departure time; some of them privily disclosed it to persons very close to them in order to reduce the shock.
To some, God revealed the time for their exit upon fulfilling the mandate on them. For example, Simeon, who literally asked God to take him after he has seen consolation of Israel (Jesus The Messiah) because “it was revealed to him by Holy Spirit that should not see death until he has seen the God’s Salvation”. (Luke 2:25-26); Elijah is also on the list, even our very own Apostle Babalola of CAC.
THE LEGACY
I will only mention one amongst many of his legacies.
One of the powerful happenings I’ve heard about the evangelist Cerullo is how he happens to be the first preacher to take the gospel to Greece after the apostles in the Bible.
He brought revival to that nation as a teenager. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that led him to achieve such a mighty feat. One man!
May his soul rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
