Who is the new pastor of Hillsong Church? Phil and Lucinda Dooley have been named the church’s new global senior pastors.

Phil and Lucinda Dooley, a husband-and-wife pastor team, were named permanent global senior pastors of Hillsong Church a year after serving as interim global senior pastors after the resignation of the church’s founder, Brian Houston. They were given the job because they are “Jesus followers” who “follow the Lord wholeheartedly.”

“Phil and Lucinda grew up in our church. Stephen Crouch, chair of the Hillsong Church Global Board, told the congregation before prayers were said for the couple, “They have served in many roles, such as youth pastors, worship pastors, and pastoral care. They have also spent the last 14 years building a thriving church in South Africa.”

“We think, and this is what the global senior board thinks, that they have the leadership spirit in their lives. As we’ve gotten to know them better, and as you’ve gotten to know them better, you can see that they follow the Lord with all their hearts. That they are followers of Jesus,” Crouch went on.

“The board agreed that it was clear that God had called them. “I also know that they are very dedicated to their jobs,” he said. “I think they will lead this church with grace and intelligence.”

Brian Houston officially quit as global senior pastor of Hillsong Church on March 23, 2022, after it came out that two women had made serious complaints of misconduct against him in the last 10 years.

Houston is fighting criminal charges in Australia that say he covered up his father’s sexual abuse of children. Since then, he has said that public statements by the church’s board, not “mistakes” he made in ministry, were to blame for his sudden resignation.

He said that the board’s statements led to rumors and let “people’s imaginations run wild” so they could come to their own conclusions about why he left Hillsong.

“Let’s be clear. People in the media and elsewhere say that I quit because I broke the Hillsong code of conduct, which is not true. I didn’t quit because of what I did wrong. I quit because of the announcements and statements that had been made. He also said that when he offered to quit in March, he expected the board to turn him down and fight for him because he knew how much pressure he was under at the time.

He said, “I guess a big part of me hoped that the board, knowing how much pressure I was under, would turn down my offer and keep fighting for me, but that didn’t happen.” “We didn’t just want to leave the Hillsong church, as some people have said. We love the people of Hillsong Church, and to be honest, we miss you all terribly.”

Houston and his wife, Bobbie, have been busy selling their used designer clothes, furniture, and other “pre-loved” home goods online over the past few weeks. They have already sold their $4.5 million home in Australia, but they still have a lot of things to get rid of.
