According to one Reverend Father Ugochukwu Ugwoke, to celebrate the day, Catholics are encouraged to buy a beer for their priests.

Although this practice has often been condemned by some persons for different reasons, there are reasons why the practice is still being maintained.

The tradition of buying a priest a beer did not start today and has been in practice since St. Hopswald of Aleyard who was reportedly the first man to take his priest out for a beer.

As to the reason why the practice has kept on, amid the widespread criticisms, it is believed that the practice was developed by the church members to show appreciation to priests.

Furthermore, the congregation also picked the date to buy beer for their priests in order to share with them how they have benefitted from the impact of their priesthood.

The practice is done by the Catholics who either take their Reverend Fathers to places where they will drink beer or invite them over to their house for beer.
