Why C&S is losing Members to Pentecostal – Cleric

A cleric in Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Ijeshatedo Lagos and immediate past rector of Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) Ikorodu, Apostle Yinka Sogunro, has blamed the increasing migration of C&S members particularly youths to Pentecostal churches on prolonged services being conducted by the former especially on Sundays.

He also blamed the increasing loss of values, particularly among Nigerian youths on what he called parental neglect and unrestricted access to modern technology devices.

Sogunro gave this position at a media briefing to commemorate the ongoing church’s 50th anniversary celebration and building dedication.

According to him, the doctrine of C&S churches gives room for long hours’ service but many people especially the youth can no longer afford to stay for long hours again in a single service, especially on Sundays, hence their moving in drove to pentecostal churches where they close their services much early.

He said even though having long-hour service is never a waste of time before God, the leadership of C&S churches is currently addressing the situation to bring back run-away members and also entice many others to join the denomination.

On high moral decadence, especially among youths in the country, Sogunro said all the stakeholders, especially parents would need to perform (and not leave to teachers nor churches) their parental roles on their children.

He said aside that churches, in particular, are trying their best to inculcate moral standards on worshippers so as to make the society better for all and equally make heaven at the end, the increasing exposure of youths to ICT devices such as android phones and internet is causing lots of havoc to them and the society.
