According to Oyedepo, instead of donating money or other financial aid to roadside beggars, believers should direct them to fellow Christians in the church of Christ.
By citing Galatians chapter six verse ten, Oyedepo stated that God gave Christians an injunction to do good for all people, particularly those who share their religious beliefs with them.
“Today, there are a lot of people on the side of the road begging for charity, but God says to do good to all men, especially those in the household of faith,” Bishop David Oyedepo said, adding that God had expressed particular care for the church when he left the instruction in the Bible. Churches should prioritize helping the poor and needy, according to him.
“Giving to the Needy begins with those who are already in the household of faith. The needy in the church is the best grand to see in terms of giving to the needy, not the malams by the roadside,” Bishop David continued, adding that the early Christians in the Scriptures only prayed for the beggars on the roadside rather than giving them alms to them.
His conclusion was that doing good to one’s church brethren is the same as doing good to one’s God. “The only church only prays for those by the roadside; they do not give them anything. They only give to the needy in the church.”
“If you do good to one of my brethren, you have done good to me,” Oyedepo said. “The Needy in the body of Christ is the best grand for sawing seeds to the poor.”
