The presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo has maintained his stand regarding reopening of churches, saying that congregating together is Biblical and strengthens the faith of people.
He also said at the church’s Word Encounter Virtual Service on Wednesday evening, that since the lockdown began, so many churches have not been in constant touch with their members, adding that it could make such members to explore other unjust options, since “nature abhors vacuum”.
“There are many, many Churches that don’t have any platform of contact with their members. They don’t have any: no house fellowships, nothing. They don’t have any and nature abhors vacuum.
“These fellows will start looking for options and alternatives: some to the cults and some to native doctors’ places,” he added.
Oyedepo also urged pastors not to fear but to stand by the words of the Bible on any issue, and not criticize him for speaking out.
“Some pastors who were angry that I said Churches should be opened and we are praying that Churches must be opened.
“Now, ask them: “Do you want Churches to remain closed?”
They will just be looking at you,” he said.
The cleric also stressed that criticisms against the Church has become a normal thing for people, adding that “the problem is ignorance, not knowing what to do and not ready to find out.”
“No, it’s just normal.
People fight prosperity, if you ask them, do you want poverty? They will be looking at you.
“Okay, why are you fighting prosperity?
If I wish you long life and poverty, will you say Amen?” he asked.
Recall that the federal government has maintained that worship centres and recreational centres should remain closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Presidential Task Force also asked churches to send in guidelines on how they intend to make worship centres safe against covid-19.
