Olukoya said “don’t tell us you are a Christian if your wife doesn’t see you as a Christian.” This is coming from a man who has been married and has been running a successful ministry for over 3 decades, so he definitely knows what he is talking about.
1 Timothy 3:5 says “For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?” According to Olukoya, marriage comes before ministry. In short, he said your life’s priority should be God, followed by your spouse, followed by your children then your ministry.
He spoke about these very important points in the Mountain Top devotional titled ‘Keys for Thriving in Marriage’. He said that couples should live in mutual kindness, loveliness, tenderness and should not have secrets as it blocks the medium of communication which is very key to a good home.
He told wives who want to enjoy a thriving marriage to voluntarily submit, respect and listen to the husband and that husbands should love and take good care of the wives.
When giving example of good homes that people whole look up to, he said “Research has shown that all the leading pastors in Nigeria, especially holiness preachers, have good homes.” This he said is possible because “they love and respect their wives.”
He advised wives to focus on inner beauty rather than being overly concerned about their outward appearances and that a woman who is quietly growing consistently with God will exhibit the life of Christ.
He ended by saying that people should set their priorities right and that you should give up anything that will make the Lord give up on you.
