Every department is a contributor to the strength of the church, especially the numerical strength. However, there are 5 main departments that are very important when it comes to church membership. These departments are;
1. The Visitation Department
If you do not have a visitation department in your church, then it is time to set up one. Every church with an active visitation department would be able to testify to this. Although the visitation department does not bring new members to the church, it makes sure that every member who has come to worship has come to stay for good.
The visitation department is charged with the responsibility of visiting every member at least once in a month. They know how to draw their table on how to visit a member, at least once in a month. Also, they keep a close eye on new members, and make them feel at home.
Members appreciate when a church cares about their wellbeing and comes to pray with them. Even if they will want to leave the church, they will find it hard because of the love the church extends to them.
2. The Evangelism Department
Just like the visitation department, the evangelism department is also very important. The evangelism department in most churches is a part of the visitation department. The evangelism department is responsible for bringing in new members, and picking a date when the whole church would go out to evangelize.
Many churches have been able to grow by doing what Jesus commanded that believers should do – evangelism.
3. The Choir Department
There are some members who would only stay in a church if the choir department is very okay. If the choir is not coordinated and sings anything on stage, then it would be a big problem for the church. Even members who are not in the church because of the type of music may later be pushed to leave if the choir is not okay and is not growing.
The choir department needs to know that they are one of the few departments who will determine how the worship service would go. They have the power to change the heart and chase away a member who is just coming for the first time to join.
4. The Ushering Department
How members are welcomed into the church is very important. There are some ushering departments that would make a member stop coming to church, or chase a member who is coming for the first time. Some ushers will not smile, they talk anyhow, and do a lot of things that are not expected of an usher.
If this department is faulty, then the numerical strength of the church can be greatly affected.
5. The Decorating Department
I love those who belong to the decorating department of their church. They know what they can earn, doing what they do in the church outside the church. Yet, not everybody knows their identity.
The look of a church can determine if a member who is coming for the first time would stay or not. If the department is wack, then the church may notice that new members do not stay. However, the church needs to also provide this department with what they need. There are some churches who do not count the department as “very important”, and this will determine the outcome of their work
