The Roman Catholic mission worldwide has had various Popes in the Papacy for several decades. But, one very significant of all the Popes was Pope John Paul II. After his demise in 2005, having ministered as the head of the Vatican for more than two decades, since 1978, he would still go down the lane of importance, as the most popular and the most respected, in the modern Roman Catholicism. Born Karol Jozef Wojtyla in Poland. He was reputed among the non Italian descents to be ordained as the Pontiff, or Bishop of Rome.
One very significant aspect of the life of Pope John Paul II was his humility. He was very humble to a fault. This could be seen from his forgiving spirit, and his down to heart lifestyle shown to all and sundry. An incident happened to the Pope, that caught everyone off guard, and surprising. Pope John Paul II was shot on 13th May, 1981, in St Peter’s Square. The shooter, Mehemet Ali Agca , a Turkish was immediately arrested. At a later time, it was discovered that, he had masterminded the assassination , attempt with some other accomplices. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Around 1983, Pope John Paul II, visited his shooter in the prison. At the intervention of the Pope, his life sentence was readjusted. He was forgiven by the Pope and the state of Italy. He was later deported. As far as the Bible is concerned, the area of sins and forgiveness is reiterated and would still continue to be the major call for every Christians to imbibe. Pope John Paul II passed on in the year 2005, and Mehemet Ali Agca was at the St Peter’s Basilica to pay his last respects to the wonderful Pope.
