A well known human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted, few hours after a female NYSC member was sent out of the Orientation Camp, because she refused to wear trouser.
According to a tweet she made on her verified twitter handle, Aisha Yesufu stated it clearly that if certain religious freedom cannot be guaranteed by the NYSC, then the National Youth Service Corps should not be compulsory.
This is not the first time an NYSC member is being sent out of the orientation camp, just because the NYSC member refused to wear trouser.
Based on what Aisha Yesufu has just said here, I really think that she made a valid point. The NYSC should try and respect peoples religious belief. If the NYSC can allow corp members to wear hijab inside the orientation camp, I don’t see the reason why they should not be allow corp members to wear skirt too. This country belongs to all.
