Coronavirus Lockdown: Taskforce arrests abuja pastor for holding church service

The authorities of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, has arrested the General Overseer of Jesus Reign Family church, Apo, Pastor U Uden for violating a ban on Public gatherings.

POLITICS NIGERIA had reported how the FCT authorities banned religious and social gatherings in their bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, a deadly respiratory disease.

In a video posted on FCTA social media pages, Attah Ikharo, the Chairman of the task force, told the pastor how he violated the government rules.

This paper also learnt that when the team arrived the church, he continued the service while the team waited to avoid confrontation. He was arrested thereafter. Mr Ikharo, while addressing the church, highlighted biblical injunctions that agree with the stance of the government. “When the Pharisees confronted Jesus asking him if they should pay tax, He said: Give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.”

Recall that, on Saturday, the team stopped an ongoing wedding service in a Christ Embassy Church located at Jabi-Utako area of Abuja.

“Nobody has come to torment the house of God. We won’t do it. But it was clearly stated and we all understand very clearly what the Bible recorded and what Paul told the children of God in the book of Romans 13:1-3. He was very explicit.”

“That all authorities that be are ordained of God that we all bear rules that we be properly governed. And even in Daniel 4: 17 and 25, it was clear when Daniel spoke to the king and made it very clear that Jehovah reigneth in the kingdom of men and through which He guides the affairs of men.”

“We don’t like to do this but when we see these people and understand the calamity we are all in, we must tell ourselves the truth that this is an extreme gathering. We have been to the radio and televisions to warn you,” Mr Ikharo told the congregation members on Saturday.

He then proceeded to arrest the Pastor. As of the time of filing this report, Nigeria has recorded a total of 97 confirmed cases of the pandemic.
