According to Vanguard Newspaper, the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Samuel Uche, yesterday, narrated how their kidnappers settled for N100 million ransom, which they said must be packaged into five ghana-must-go, each containing N20 million.
When they were ambushed, the driver and communication man of the church were able to escape, while they captured three of them with him, the Bishop of Owerri and the Chaplain included.
The prelate said everything happened like a movie, and it took time for him to realize it was real. The kidnappers were all Fulani, with the eldest being around 35 years old. He said the bandits first asked for N150 million, which he said was a joke and said they’d give them N10 million. The terrorists reduced the ransom to N100 million and threatened to kill them if they tried to negotiate. They even went ahead to show them the decomposed bodies of people they had killed.
The bandits were all Fulani and claimed to be the true owners of Igbo land. “We will finish you people and take over this land because it belongs to the Fulani,” said the bandits. They also expressed how disappointed they were in the government. Dr Samuel Uche explained how they were tortured and even hit their eyes on a tree in the process. The eyes bled till his handkerchief was soaked with blood, but the kidnappers acted like nothing happened.
