Medical Reports Finally Shows What Killed Osinachi Nwanchukwu.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Wuse 2 has slated October 17 for a crucial ruling regarding an application filed by Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, shedding light on her demise through a medical perspective.

Osinachi passed away on April 8, 2022, prompting accusations of maltreatment and domestic violence against her husband. The subsequent arrest of Nwachukwu by the Nigeria Police Force intensified public scrutiny, leading to his case file being forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for potential prosecution.

The trial commenced on June 20, 2022, with the prosecution presenting 17 witnesses to provide their testimonies. The prosecution formally concluded its case on March 10, 2023. During the arraignment before Justice Njideka K. Nwosu-Iheme, Nwachukwu pleaded not guilty to the 23-count charges related to domestic violence and homicide, subsequently being remanded at the Kuje Correctional facility.

In a significant development, a police report stated the absence of visible signs of violence on the deceased. The report cited the causes of her death as “generalized organ pallor, bilateral leg swelling, fluid in the sac containing the heart, tumor deposits in and on the heart, lungs, kidneys, massively enlarged heart, and fluid around the lungs, restricting breathing.”

Leveraging this medical assessment, Nwachukwu’s lawyer, A. Aliyu, submitted a no-case application to the court. Aliyu emphasized that the evidence provided by medical practitioners, as presented by the prosecution, absolved Nwachukwu of culpable homicide.

During the recent court session on Tuesday, Justice Nwosu-Iheme scheduled October 17 for the ruling on the no-case submission, underscoring the pivotal role of the medical report in shaping the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Osinachi’s tragic demise.
