Mixed reactions as Dele Momodu advises RCCG and it’s Leaders against joining politics

The founder of Ovation magazine and 2023 Presidential candidate, Dele Momodu has taken to his official Facebook page to advise authorities of the Redeemed Christian Church of God against venturing into politics through the creation of the Office of the Directorate of Politics and Governance created by the church some days ago. Recall that when the memo was distributed by the church through its social media platforms, it got a lot of mixed reactions from Nigerians, especially from renowned human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, who praised the church for such initiative.

However, Dele Momodu has frowned at this initiative, tagging it as a step towards disrupting the peace of the church. According to him, he stated that it is wrong for the church to dabble into politics knowing fully well the conflict that usually emanates from religious issues in the country. He asserted that when he first saw the memo, he couldn’t believe it until he made some calls to the church authorities and it was confirmed that the initiative was to drum up support for the aspiration of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who is also a senior pastor of the church and other members who might be willing to contest for the next election.

While going against this, he stated that if the initiative was to drum support for one candidate over the others because of some unknown special interest, the result might not be pleasant. Speaking further, he noted that he, Dele Momodu is a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and also a Presidential candidate in the forthcoming election. Also, the wife of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a member of the RCCG even though her husband, Asiwaju is a Muslim and also a Presidential candidate.

Therefore, he advised the authorities of the church to retract their step and take down the memo because if all other religious organizations decide to follow suit, it might result in a clampdown of law and order in the country. He, however, stated that the best way to support their ambition as members of the church is to help them spiritually and with other resources that God has blessed the church with.
