Yesterday President Muhammadu Buhari hosted the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, at the Presidential Villa. In attendance at the meeting was the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. And it was the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, that welcomed the august visitor.
Though the purpose of the meeting and visit has yet to be made public, there are insinuations from some quarters that the General Overseer of the RCCG was at the Villa because of the controversial laws of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) being proposed by the federal government.

Many Christian leaders including the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Samson Ayokunle, the General Overseer of the Winners Chapel Bishop David Oyedepo among others have all condemned and opposed the controversial laws.
But why is it that easy for Pastor Adeboye to visit and discuss with President Muhammadu Buhari?
Two reasons can be given for the privilege Pastor Adeboye enjoys to easily visit and discuss with President Muhammadu Buhari even amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
1. The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is a pastor at the RCCG.

Before he was elected along with Muhammadu Buhari, the vice president Yemi Osinbajo was a senior pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Even when the vice president was jostling for the post, he was massively supported by the church and the General Overseer of the RCCG.
With the vice president at office and being not just a member of the RCCG, but also a senior pastor, it is easier for Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye to have President Muhammadu Buhari’s attention.
2. Pastor Adeboye isn’t a critic of President Buhari.

One thing about Pastor Adeboye is that he hardly condemns any government no matter the level of provocation and no matter how bitter he is. The RCCG General Overseer is soft spoken and humble and he would rather advise the government than condemn or destructively criticise the government.
While many pastors have called for the head of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Pastor Adeboye has remained silent and refused to talk to the media about the current issue of CAMA.

President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of how a number of religion leaders condemn him, but Pastor Adeboye isn’t one of them. As a result of this, the president would always be ready to welcome the general overseer.
