Unknown to me, we were lodged in the same hotel in Denver, Colorado, in 2015. When I was told that Daddy Wake Oke is lodged some floors above me, I said to my wife, “in this hotel?. We jumped out and went straight to his room. There were few balls of oranges on his desk. He stood up to receive us, picked up the oranges to wash them in the kitchen for us. My wife was dazed, and she rushed to take the oranges from him “daddy you can’t wash oranges for us sir”. After the meeting, he told us to kneel down, “I impart on you….”. It was a turning point in my ministry. I gave daddy a small gift I had with me. Few days later, he sent his Bishop to thank me for what I gave him. That’s Papa for you. Give him N10, he will celebrate you. Very grateful heart.
When you hear the words, “there is somebody here”, be sure that it’s daddy’s voice. Few days back, I was telling God, “this man must not take this propehetic mantle to the grave?. The prophetic grace on him is beyond imagination. Pastor E. A Adeboye once said, “this man gave me 27 prophecies, and 26 of them have come to pass”. How do I celebrate the birthday of God’s general, my own daddy and spiritual father under whom I served for many years. Humble, caring, sacrificial, deep, amiable are the least to mention. Daddy can pray! Ah. It was under him I received my greatest ministry preparation. He taught us to pray; he taught us to be bold; he taught us to fast.
And daddy can honour you enn. He taught us about honour. In 2016, I quietly walked into the auditorium during one of the conventions, not wanting him to see me. So I sat behind Nathaniel Bassey, and ensured that he didn’t see me. But, alas, he called that every one must dance to the altar with their offerings. As we were dancing, I tried to dodge him, but suddenly he saw me and smiled and wrote down something. I knew I was in soup. Few minutes after, I heard, “ladies and gentlemen, welcome my son, Ayo Akerele, all the way from Canada”. It was a packed house. I was so embarrassed as I didn’t want this at all. That was how I connected with Nathaniel Bassey for the first time.
The list continues. Words fail me to talk about the thousands of pastors in eastern Europe he has impacted. The tens of thousands in Africa and many more in the 97 countries he’s ministered, the dead that God has raised up, the millions of souls that have received Christ under him, and many more.
