A General Overseer of Mercy Deliverance Ministries which is at No 5 Giwa Street, Rumuolumeni in the Obi-Akpor Local Government Rivers State was apprehended by the Rivers State Police for harboring teenage girls, and selling their babies to rich childless couples.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that over 18 babies were sold in the first year at the sum of; N1.5 m boy, and girl N1.1 m respectively.
The hidden atrocious act in the Great Mercy Deliverance Ministry by the founder was made known when a teenager, Patience Edet Okon gone missing, and the parents petitioned the IGP about their missing 19-year-old pregnant daughter.
The detectives attached to the Intelligence Response Team of Rivers State swung into action, and it turned out that part of same church premises was used to run a profitable baby making factory.
During the raid by the detectives, three pregnant teenagers were saved; a 19-year-old Loveth Emmanuel, five months pregnant from Okpalla in Imo State, Chisom Emmanuel, 18, of Ohaji Egbema in Imo State, who was seven months pregnant. The third is from ukwa Ifeanyi Chioma and she’s five months pregnant.
Also found in the church compound was Patience Okon Edet, whose parents petitioned IGP about her being missing. However, she submitted that she gave birth to a baby boy, and alleged that the baby was sold to a childless couple in Delta State.
According to a source from the police, detectives also found about seven rooms in the church, used for baby factory business.The police also traced and arrested a couple, Henry and Ifeyinwa Otugbara who claimed to have bought twins from separate mothers with the sum N3.5 million.
