Daniel Orekoya was among the many followers of Apostle Ayo Babalola of the Christ Apostolic Church. He was of Ijebu-Mushin ancestry, in the Ogun State of Nigeria. As Ayo Babalola is reputed for the revival of 1930, so also Daniel Orekoya, unknown to many is reputed as the main protagonist of the influences of the revival in the largest city in the Western region, Ibadan. His influence in the revival also spread to Abeokuta, and other western environs that including the Lagos colony of then.

He was physically impaired, and not educated. This did not limit the length with which God would eventually use him. The great apostle Ayo Babalola was said to have mentioned things of immense greatness about him that, his portion of anointing from God was in great measures. Despite the several greatness and things of immense spiritual attributes that has also contributed to the development and the length in which Christ Apostolic Church had attained today, Daniel Orekoya was without his several faults which eventually contributed to his untimely and sad end. He was a major contributor to the greatness witnessed in CAC, seconded to Apostle Ayo Babalola.

1. Accepting His brother’s wife after his demise:

One of his mistakes was to accept his brother’s wife as his when the latter died. This did not augur well with his calling as he did not have time for her. His immense anointing and the mandate he has for the body of Christ was greater than he could lightly handle. Since he was rarely present at home, there was a lot he could not fulfil, having accepted to take over the wife his brother left.

2. Disobedience to the constituted authority:

This he publicly confessed to while he writhed in pains, having suffered a very high degree of burns as a result of an explosion while preparing a gas lamp ready for use in what could have been his last crusade in Warri, now the Delta State of Nigeria. According to his historical records, he was so consecrated and full of zeal for the work of the gospel, hence, he has asked the church for funds and assistance for some of his several revival outreaches. This they had refused blatantly as he was seen as not following the guidelines of the church. Orekoya on his own moved forward boldly like a soldier of Christ and went on to push forward for the crusades, which cuts across the core Western parts of the nation and the Benin Republic. Having served under Babalola as his assistant for a while. Babalola had also noticed him and gave him his blessings.

He told the people around him not to pray anymore for him after he had the accident, and that they should take him back home, to his hometown. He was brought to Ijebu Ode. The leaders of the church prayed for him and before he died, he confessed that his predicament was a result of his insubordination to the church and constituted authority, pride and high handedness. He advised that no one should follow his example before he finally gave up the ghost.

His few years of ministry was great and impactful in establishing what is still the present move of the Apostolic move of God in Nigeria, and beyond.
