Nigeria is blessed with many educated personalities in different profession. Some of these men and women have excelled in their chosen careers.
In religious setting, the country which is regarded as a “giant of African” has produced notable religious leaders, who are General Overseers and General Superintendents of their different churches. Some of these men are highly educated but abandoned their educational certificates for the gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Some of them are Doctorate degree holders from reputable Higher Institutions in different parts of the world.
We will look at three popular Nigerian Pastors and church founders, who abandoned their doctorate degrees for the gospel.
1. William Folorunso Kumuyi:
Pastor (Dr.) William F. Kumuyi is the first popular Nigerian Pastor who abandoned highly regarded educational certificate for the gospel of Christ.
He graduated with a first-class honours degree in Mathematics from University of Ibadan before he proceeded to University of Lagos for post graduate course in Education. He was a Mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos State.
In 1973, Pastor Kumuyi abandoned his educational career and established Deeper Christian Life Ministry otherwise known as Deeper Life Bible Church.
His church has grown to be one of the largest congregation in the world.
Pastor William F. Kumuyi received an honorary PhD from the University of Abuja.
2. Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye:
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Adeboye is one of the educated Clergymen in Nigeria, who abandoned their doctorate degree certificate for the ministry of the gospel.
According to reports, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Obafemi Awolowo University. He obtained a Master degree in Hydrodynamics from University of Lagos.
The General Overseer of RCCG obtained a Ph.D in Aplied Mathematics from University of Lagos.
His Wikipedia profile has it that Pastor Adeboye holds a position as Professor of Mathematics at University of Lagos.
3. Christopher Oyakhilome:
Pastor Christopher Oyakhilome popularly known as Pastor Chris Oyekhilome is the founder and president of LoveWorld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy.
He is one of the respected and educated men of God in Nigeria.
Christ Embassy Church is one of the popular churches in Nigeria and outside the country.
According to Wikipedia, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has an honorary degree in Divinity from Benson Idahosa University.
He also obtained a degree in Architecture and an honorary Doctor of Science award from Ambrose Alli University.
He is currently focused in his church, Christ Embassy.
