Popular pro-life church was “heartbroken” when a small child was found alive in a trash can

A baby was found in the dumpster of a small pro-life church in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on Saturday. This left the church’s members “heartbroken.”

Even though Ardmore police did not say which church the baby was found at, Associate Pastor Ed Skidmore of House of Prayer on Harris Street told The Christian Post in an interview on Tuesday that the baby was found at their church.

“Of course, it broke our hearts to pieces,” Skidmore said. “We support life from the moment a baby is conceived. We help babies grow in the womb. We help out the pregnancy center in our area. We help moms out. Our hearts went out to the father, mother, and child. We are heartbroken to the core.”

No one knows if the baby’s parents go to the church where the child was left.

Ardmore police told WLBT 3 that the child was found around 3 p.m. and was in stable condition as of Saturday night, but they didn’t say much else about the find. When CP asked investigators for more information, they didn’t answer right away.

Skidmore told CP that investigators at the scene told him that the baby’s mother told them that the baby was left in the dumpster and that no one was at the church when the baby was left there.

“I did talk to the police officers who were here, and they said that the mother told them where the baby was, which was at a different place. “That’s all they would say,” Skidmore told him.

He said that the baby wasn’t a newborn, but that he was told the child was a few weeks old.

Skidmore also said that even though his small congregation of about 60 people doesn’t help mothers in trouble, there are many ways to get help in the town.

“I do know that we have a great pregnancy center in town that helps a lot of women and offers many ways for pregnant women who want to keep their baby to get help,” he said.

“I don’t know anything about what led up to the situation… “But I know this: in this world without Christ, the enemy will try to convince us that there are permanent answers to temporary problems,” he said. “And when we don’t have people around us who really care about us, things can get out of hand very quickly. But [the baby’s abandonment] broke our hearts.”

Skidmore said he doesn’t know why the mother gave up her child, but he told his church, which had never seen anything like it in the eight years he has been in charge, that it was a message from God to pray more.

“This is what I said to my church. I don’t know if this is a part of town where she lived or not. But I know that baby was here so that we could all pray for a specific thing as a group,” he said. “All we have to do is join our hearts to pray for the parents and the child. We have a great church group. We’re just so sad that someone was put in such a hopeless situation.”
