Pastor E.A Adeboye while speaking on how dangerous prosperity can be if not properly managed by a child of God narrates a true-life story that happened to one of his spiritual sons; In his early years as a minister of God.
He said;
I remember a time during my early years in ministry, I together with many of our brethren were in a program , as at that time I was really poor, the poverty was so palpable but during a ministration by an American Pastor who came to minister in our church , you know the way they talk and walk around while preaching. (imitating the way the Pastor talked). He went to my son, he said God said if you will serve me, I will make you a millionaire.
After six months things started falling into place for him, he became very wealthy, he left where he was living at Mushin to a better place, bought new cars.
Suddenly, some people came to me and asked me to come and pray for him. I asked them what happened, they told me he (his spiritual son) had a heart attack.
I was worried, he was a young man with prospects. Besides, It been a while I set my eyes on him in the church, I went to pray for him.
When I got him, I prayed for him and asked him what happened, he told me there was a contract he won which was worth 200 million on a condition he was about to meet in 2weeks time but before that time, the contract was terminated. I knew something was wrong so I told him why he has not been committed to the things of God before he became rich because I was there when the pastor prophesied that he was going to be wealthy if he will serve God. He said he was always busy, he had to travel for meetings abroad on Sundays
I told him the truth, I said, you have forgotten God who brought you from nobody to somebody great, repent and come back to him and you will see that God will give you back this contract but he never comes back.
