Bishop Oyedepo Opens up on Why He once Rejected a Gift of a Brand New Car, Says I want Eternity Not Infinity

The Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Bible Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has opened up on reasons why many ministers of God have their ministries cut down mid-way without arriving ultimately at the expected eternal end which God reserved for them.

To him, the key reward for every genuine servant of God is to reap eternal life by arriving at the expected end, where God is already waiting for them, as Rewarder of the diligent.

But, Bishop Oyedepo said this expected eternal end can only come through adequate empowerment with gifts of discernment and discerning spirit to detect contaminating and polluting influences by Satan, using anyone available.

Oyedepo, received the divine call in May 1981, through an 18-hour vision to liberate the world from all oppression of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith.

Ministering not too long ago at the Faith Tabernacle Auditorium, Canaan land headquarters of the church, Ota, he opined that many servants of God are not discerning enough to know how to draw a limit in their fascination for the good things of life.

“A servant of God who has his eyes on the expected end should not receive gifts anyhow because there are gifts that alter the course of your destiny and thereby derail you to an unexpected end”, he stressed.

Some 30 years ago, the Bishop of the church also known as Winners Chapel, recalled an occasion where an admirer of his, who is also a member of his church, went the whole hog to import the latest model of a brand new car called “Infinity” which he presented to him as a gift.

Oyedepo said: “The man in question, out of his love for me and my ministry took all the trouble to impress me and brought the car to my house.

“Of course, I appreciated the man as soon as he handed over the key of the car to me. But, something told me to let’s go and inspect the car and also pray on the car.

“As we were moving near the car, the brand name of the car kept flashing to my spirit. All of a sudden, I just noticed that I screamed out loud…please have your key and take away the car. I don’t want it. I reject this car. I don’t want INFINITY. I want ETERNITY.

“As expected, many people would have taken me for an arrogant fellow, I do not care a hoot when I receive a strong forceful resistance of the Holy Spirit.

“I realised, with the help of the Holy Spirit, that the car gift, by implication of its name, INFINITY was a negative prophesy to my calling and destiny.”

Oyedepo continued: “What I want in this life is ETERNITY and not INFINITY. The prophetic covenant that I have with God is that where I am headed to in this life is ETERNITY and not anything else because INFINITY is going no where whereas ETERNITY is sure. It is a destination. My ultimate destination in life is ETERNITY and not INFINITY!”

The 66-year old Bishop further justified his decision to reject the plush car gift, explaining that no matter how fascinating a gift is once the Spirit of God regards it as inimical to my calling and ministry, he would never disobey heavenly voice.

Oyedepo admonished the congregation not to be unduly attracted by fanciful gifts saying “not all gifts are good gifts and you must know that gifts can put you into trouble if you have not learned how to hearken to the voice of God.”

According to him, “if God secured for me a prophetic covenant package of an expected end, and If I must arrive at Eternity, how then can I be cruising in a car called INFINITY? God forbid!”

The Bishop who also doubles as Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, quoted copiously from the Holy Scriptures in Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11, which says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
