A Catholic Priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Reverend Father Oluoma Chinenye John (popularly known as Father Oluoma) said you should not allow Christianity to prevent you from participating in cultural and social activities. The reason, according to him, is that Jesus Christ participated in such activities when he was on earth.
Buttressing further, he referred to the wedding Jesus attended at Cana in Galilee and His pilgrimage to the Temple of God at Jerusalem at the age of 12, saying that they were all cultural activities.
Father Oluoma said people who refuse to participate in social activities like birthday parties, comedy shows and hangouts should not think it is what makes them Christian, it makes them anti-social.
In the video, he said: “Don’t be that kind of Christian who is anti-social and anti-culture. Jesus associated with people and participated in cultural activities when He was on earth. He attended a wedding at Cana of Galilee and went on a pilgrimage to the Temple at the age of 12. Those were Jewish cultural activities. Some Christians don’t attend comedy shows and birthday parties, thinking that’s what makes them a Christian”.
