Pastor Abel Damina has admonished believers to place their faith and belief on the finished work of Christ rather than on the law of tithing. Pastor Damina made this scriptural clarification during his Bible Teaching in his Kingdom Life Network Programme, stating that no human or religious practice is greater than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross. Hence, it is only the believer’s faith in God through Jesus Christ that can take him to heaven.
Pastor Damina deconstructed the belief by some christians that ‘if you don’t pay tithes, you won’t make heaven’. According to him, it is only ignorance that can make one place value on money over Jesus.
“When money is priced than Jesus, then the problem is in the heart, not a knowledge problem”.
“A man that follows Christ cannot make tithing more important than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ”.
The pastor also explained that christians don’t get born again by paying tithes. Rather, man becomes born again by believing the gospel of the death, burial and resurrection Jesus Christ.
On if christians should pay tithes, Pastor Damina explained that a true born again Christian does not need to pay tithes. According to him, the spirit of Christ which is in the life of a true christian gives him the heart of Christ.
“When you get born again, the Nature of Christ gives you the heart of Christ. At this moment, you are not expected to pay tithes”.
