Opinion: 2 Reasons why Deeper Life Church Don’t Invite Gospel Artistes

The body of Christ has several integral ministries, that perform their various roles. One of such ministries is the music ministry -and the key players in this ministry are the ones we call ‘Gospel singers or artistes’.

The music ministry has always been a functional tool in the hands of God. The Bible even records in 2 Chronicles 20 that God gave Israel victory, over its enemies, by merely commanding the choir to play music.

Therefore, many of the modern-day churches usually place a good amount of premium on the music ministry and focus on the delivery of quality music from their choir. Some even go further, by inviting popular gospel artists during major programs, conferences, and conventions.

However, some other churches do not and would prefer to stick with hymns and more classical-inclined songs, rather than the contemporary songs – that 21st-century church has acclimatized to – and would also rarely invite gospel singers to minister at their special programs

1. DLBC’s mandate may not accommodate contemporary kinds of music and musicians

Every ministry has got a mandate – one that was given to its founder by God, and the mandate only prospers when it is followed to the letter. Therefore, it is possible that the mandate that God gave to Kumuyi only revolves around the ministry of the word and prayer and less emphasis on the music ministry.

2. DLBC may prefer Classical to Contemporary music

It is a well-known fact that contemporary music is more popular than classical in the 21st century and as a result, the majority of Gospel artistes in this generation are mostly contemporary-inclined in their music ministries.

Therefore, if DLBC’s pattern of music is more classical, then it means there would be no need for contemporary Gospel artists, or else this would bring about misalignment of ideologies.
