There is this one department in the church most people want to join, and it used to make me wonder what is so special about the department, that attracts everybody, even those who are not qualified. I am sorry, I am not saying the department is not special. Of course, every department is, but it is just that most people prefer this unit, when there are tens of units to join in the church.
Already, many of you have the idea of the department I am talking about. It is no other than the “great” choir department. Everywhere I go to, I just see people going for the choir interview even when they do not have the voice (or talent in short). Some will intentionally say they have come to learn so that they will not be thrown out.
Funny enough, there are some people who are talented and gifted in other areas, that can be useful in some other department in the church, but no, they all want to belong to the choir department or no department at all. I think I have the answer to my question already; people want to be relevant.
There are two categories of people in the choir; those who are there to serve God (minister) through songs, and those who want to be seen. It is just unfortunate that many do not understand that the choir is a ministry on its own. Some people only want to climb on stage, so that everybody can see them, and tell them “I saw you singing today”. The motive for which many have joined the choir unit is just so wrong.
It would be very okay if people could look at their area of giftedness, and join the units that best fit their gifts. It would be very okay if people would stop the ” eye-service” thing and worship God in spirit and in truth.
There are many departments in the church, look at the one that suits you. Everybody cannot be in the choir, and not everyone is meant to be in the choir.
