Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry spoke to his members about “Presenting Valiant Men To Vacillating Society.” In one of his sub-topics, he spoke about “The Fruitless Search of Vain Seekers.”
He read the book of 1 Kings 18:20 and told the story of King Ahab. There was a famine in the land of Israel and Ahab told Obadiah his servant to go and look for grass so that they can feed their cattle and animals. He was a vain seeker because he was concerned about the well-being of his animals and not the humans in the land. According to the man of God, it was a fruitless search.
He then said, “As leaders, we need to ask ourselves, are we vain seekers? We are seeking for different things whereas the people we are supposed to lead are dying, suffering and loss.” As confirmed by Obadiah, Ahab had searched everywhere for Elijah and he was nowhere to be found.
So Ahab never got what he sought and the people who leave the fountain and the Lord and are seeking after different things, are vain seekers and they never get what they’re looking for. “But when you come and seek the Lord with your heart and soul according to his provision and you seek him in the way of the Lord, you will find Him,” he prayed.
According to him, the church and ministers have to leave all the things we are seeking after and focus on God.
He said, “There are pastors who are seeking after many people to come to their Assembly (that’s not what to seek) and because of that some of them go to herbalists. They pay millions so that the juju man will do something that will increase their number. You lose your soul, you lose your eternity when you go to seek for numbers. Some are seeking for money and they leave God aside (Vain seekers).
They give a kind of message that tells people to donate money and other material things so that they can enjoy certain things. A lot of people have sold their lands and other things and brought the money to the prophets who become richer while they become poorer.
Finally, he said that the right seeker is the one who seeks for the conversion of people and for people to be turned into righteousness and salvation. What are you seeking after?
