What I Told An American Man Who Commented On My Accent – Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder and senior pastor of Salvation Ministries spoke on “Wisdom For Positive Self-image” at Salvation Ministries Home of Success, April Week of Spiritual Empowerment, Day 3.

He revealed that When he travels outside the country, he learns many things, especially the expression of Americans as they are very proud. He said that he and his wife were standing one day and someone said, “you have an accent,” and he replied, “you also have an accent.” He said that he didn’t get angry because his accent shows where he come from. He said that the person was an American and he kept quiet because the person thought when he said it, he will be angry. “I told him you have an accent also. My accent shows that I am from Africa and yours show that you’re from America,” he said.

According to the cleric, he said that the man was trying to tell him that he has a heavy tongue. He then told him, “you have an accent too, that’s why I know who you are, you know my accent, that’s why you know who I am.” The man then agreed. The cleric then revealed that the man has a complex will to say such but he cannot change anything. He said that he cannot change his accent at that old age and there is no way he will come to church and speak with an American accent. “Won’t you ask what is wrong with Pastor David this morning?” he asked.

“It’s too late for me to do that now, at this age. I can’t be like them, they can’t be like me, I am who I am and I preach to the entire world with this voice and the whole world listens from here, just be yourself,” he said.
