MUMMY’S 4’0 CLOCK RITUALS

As kids, we know that there were two hours of the day that Mum will never miss praying- 4am and 4pm. She utilised that hour so much that we gave lyrics to the 4’o clock chiming of our wall clock- “Stand up immediately”. We knew whatever Mummy was doing, she would pray for 4am and 4pm.

Of recent, I got to know the weight of an hour of prayer when she recounted how she came back to life after being certified dead at that hour of prayer!

As a believer, you must pray without ceasing. But in the same vein, if you do not yet have an hour of prayer, you are not yet in the business of praying.

If you want to develop the discipline of prayer, the best place to start is to designate what you will call your hour of prayer. If you do not have a time that you pray, you are most likely not praying.

One of the treasures of yesteryears that we must not abandon is the pattern of having a hour set aside to pray. It is called quiet time.

It was the practice in the Old Testament and it is also seen in the New. Daniel definitely had his hour of prayer. It was recorded that he prayed 3 times daily.

The Psalms are also filled with examples of praying in the morning (Psalms 5:3) and in the evening (Psalm 42:8). This must have been one of David’s finest secret.

In the New Testament, the apostles went to the temple at the Hour of Prayer (Acts 3:1).

There is no one who is a giant in the Christian faith who has abandoned the discipline of having a hour of prayer.

We do not have to go far to know if you are serious with praying or not. So answer the simple question- “What Hour do you pray?” Did I hear you say “Anytime that is convenient”. How does that sound?

Having a hour or prayer helps you shut out distractions so you can focus. “The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.”

It alerts those around you as to the time you cannot be accessed or disturbed.

On a personal note, I notice that anytime I become fat and lazy spiritually, it is because I have not been faithful with my hour of prayer- it is the spiritual gym where we shed weight.

It is the place where we give God our burden and take on His own burden. It is place of igniting. It is the place of strength.

Now! Pause and ask- What is my Hour of Prayer? Now fix one and begin the journey.
