Why Women Wearing Trousers is Right: The Truth your Pastor may not tell you

From Pastors who call it an abomination to female corp members who are sent back home for refusing the mandatory uniform, to others who are so used to it that they scarcely go out without putting it on.

The right or wrong in women wearing trousers has always been an issue that divides many in this part of our world, especially the Christian folks.

While, some opine that the practice is an abomination and very often quote the Deuteronomy 22 verse 5 portion of the bible, many others hold the view that we are in a dispensation of liberty, where those things don’t matter anymore.

So, who’s right or wrong?

It may be apt to point out first, that many Christians make use of some bible references in isolation to back up their sentimental positions on matters such as this, and the use of the Deuteronomy 22 verse 5 in isolation is an example.

Popular pastor and founder of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor Kumuyi had once termed the practice an abomination in a message in which he said, the standard of God would not change even if the world change, He emphasized that God frowns at any woman wearing men’s wears and vice versa, a statement which generated no little controversy.

In another view, wife of Mount Zion President, Gloria Bamiloye, had said ‘the practice may not be considered wrong, but it may portray the woman in the wrong way to unbelievers.’

The truth is, many Christians don’t understand the purpose of some laws given to the nation of Israel in the old testament. While some of the laws are basically for everyone to live right, some others were just specifically for the Jews’ culture and their ceremonial laws.

There were hundreds of laws given to the Jews, but most Christians are not Jews, but Gentiles and only the basic rules of righteous living is mandatory for Christians to follow.

Moreover, in that same Deuteronomy 22, there are some other practices prohibited there, which includes sewing or wearing of garments of different materials, sowing different seeds or plants in a farm, and practices which many Christians even do today without any feeling of guilt.

But the too righteous people do hold on to the single verse that supports their narrow opinion.

In addition to these, the clothes worn by people of that period is quite different from what is even referred to as women’s cloths or men’s wear now.

Men put on long robes, usually with a girdle in their loins, and women wore gowns, most times with a veil, a practice that may still be found among Muslims and the Arab Nations.

However, this practice is very uncommon and unusual with Christians.

So maybe for Christians to follow the common scriptural verse to detail, men should put on long robes, and ladies should go back to the old ways too.

In the Actual sense, that’s just not necessary anymore. Christians are no longer bond by the law. What God requires is modesty and moderacy in every practice.
