It is no longer news that Nigeria is one of Africa’s most religious countries, filled with so many churches and mosques but yet our dear nation remains stagnant.
On so many occasions, you must have come across several headlines reporting religious leaders for one crime or the other. Here we have gathered a list of six Nigerian pastors that have been arrested for horrendous crimes. Enjoy!
N/B: This article is not to bring down Christianity as a religion in Nigeria.
06. Prophet Melody Adija
Popular Warri based prophet identified as Melody Adija was arrested by the Nigerian police on the 28th of July for staging fake miracles to deceive people.
The prophet who is the founder and general overseer of Light Way Ministries (a.k.a The Last Bus stop) located at Warri, Delta confessed and admitted that he payed people a sum of N5000 for this ungodly act.
05. Pastor Francis Taiwo
Nigerian pastor, Francis Taiwo was paraded by the Nigerian police on the 25th of 2016 after he was reported for keeping his 9-year old son in chains for more than a month as a punishment.
He admitted to his crimes, also claiming he did it because his son was possessed with the spirit of stealing. He was able to carry out this act with the help of some of his members.
04. Evangelist Chukwudi Chukwuemeka a.k.a Agido Jesus
34-year old general overseer of Mount Zion Ministries in Obosi Community of Anambra State, Evangelist Chukwudi Chukwuemeka a.k.a Agido Jesus was arrested for allegedly raping a minor.
Agido Jesus was said to have lured her to his church with a prophesy that her bright future is being hindered by the devil.
However, the evangelist denied having canal knowledge of the minor and claims he was being setup by another pastor.
03. Pastor Timothy Omotoso
Popular South African based Nigerian pastor/Televangelist, Timothy Omotoso of Jesus Dominion International was arrested for rape and human trafficking.
Pastor Omotoso was said to have groomed his victims and began molesting them from the age of 14. He is currently in jail and on trail at the Port Elizabeth high court in South Africa.
02. Prophet Alfa Babatunde
Popular Akure prophet, Alfa Babatunde was arrested by the Department of State Security following the petition against him about a missing child in his church.
His church was set ablaze by angry mob after the body of the child was discovered by the Department of State Security under the church altar.
01. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo a.k.a Reverend King
Chukwuemeka Ezeugo aka Reverend King was just a regular Nigerian pastor who shepherded the Christian Praying Assembly (CPA) located in Lagos.
He was arraigned on September 26, 2006 on a six-count charge of attempted murder and murder but he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. However he was sentenced to death by the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on January 11, 2007 for the murder of Ann Uzoh and an Appeal Court sitting in Lagos upheld his death sentence in 2013.
