Virtually every one in the Christian faith know that Bishop David Oyedepo has three very prominent spiritual fathers that he is always proud to talk about. While Kenneth Hagin, an American preacher and founder of Rhema Christian Faith has gone to be with the Lord, Kenneth Copeland, also an American preacher and founder of Kenneth Copeland Ministries is still very much alive so also is Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG.
However, not many know that the revered Bishop has a spiritual mother, one that he hardly talks about as much as he talks about his spiritual fathers. She is none other than Betty Lasher, an American who led him to Christ in 1969 when she was in Nigeria as a missionary teacher.
While the Bishop was hostile to every one who came preaching to him about being born again because according to him, having been born in the church and attending church since he could remember, he automatically assumed he was born again, it was the loving, patient and caring ministry of then Miss Betty Lasher that convinced him to give his life to Christ on February 19 1969.
Now the lady who is still very much alive turns 90 later this week. And were it not for the closure of airports due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Bishop revealed that he would have made her birthday a memorable one; flying in and celebrating with her. But nevertheless, he said he would still call her, be a part of any celebration via zoom and when the restrictions on flying gets lifted, he would fly out with his sons to celebrate with her as she needs to meet her ‘grandsons’ (Pastor David Oyedepo jnr and Pastor Isaac Oyedepo jnr).
