Prophecies about Trump that turned out to be wrong are a “Wake-Up Call to the Charismatic Church,” as one author put it. In the Case of Michael Brown
An abundance of so-called prophets who foretold a second term for former President Trump and then revised their tale after the election should be a “wake-up call to the charismatic church,” according to Christian author and apologist Michael Brown.
In the most recent episode of the Crossmap Podcast, Brown explained to host Chris Carpenter that a major inspiration for his new book, The Political Seduction of the Church: How Millions of American Christians Have Confused Politics with the Gospel, was the “wave of prophetic voices all guaranteeing four more years of Trump” and then “going into denial.” The book dedicates two chapters to discussing the mistaken prophesies.
The “most famous prophetic voices speaking out,” Brown added, “unanimously projected four more years of Donald Trump,” referring to prophets in the United States and beyond. “Some people are admitting now that ‘We were correct. In reality, he was elected, but the vote was fraudulently altered in his favor. To me, that’s just an excuse to avoid responsibility. For if he doesn’t become president, the prophesy serves no purpose. No one was wondering who would end up with the most votes but not the presidency.
Everyone who heard it, even the seers, knew it meant only one thing: Donald Trump would be the next president. It’s safe to assume that every single one of those seers would have said “yes” if you had asked them, “So you’re telling me Donald Trump will have eight straight years?” Nobody mentioned the year 2024 in conversation. Not one of them predicted, “He’ll win the election, but it’ll be stolen.”
Brown claims that he cast a ballot for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and agreed with the previous president’s views. Nonetheless, Brown claims that many Christians have become a “appendage” to Trump’s cause.
His criticism of the charismatic movement’s prophets was that they “became caught up in political politics.”
According to Brown, “Hey, we’ve got access to the White House, hey, our guy is in power” are all possibilities. But the surprise came later, when individuals denied it or didn’t apologize. Seriously, this is a wake-up call. And a resounding alarm to the charismatic church.”
