How Jesus was able to preach to multitudes without using a microphone
One of the biggest questions that I have always asked myself is how Jesus and the apostles like Paul would preach to huge crowds without using any public address systems such as microphones and speakers to help amplify their voice.
Jesus preached to crowds of upto 5000 people, excluding the women and children. In another instance, he also preached to a multitude of 4000 men still excluding the women and children who are always more compared to men. I guess am not the only one who is wondering how this could be possible. But there could be certain things that favoured this. Here are a few of them:
Possibility of Jesus or the apostles having a large voice
This is the most obvious one. There is certainly no way that one would be heard by a large crowd unless their voice was audible enough. Consider the murmurs in the room and noise from the vicinity. All these would lower the chances of one hearing clearly. But a voice loud enough would make it possible. And that was the advantage that Jesus and the apostles had.
The audience would pay attention
There is high chance that those who came to listen to Jesus marveled at His wisdom and the signs and wonders he performed. As such, they were keen on hearing him which made them pay keen attention to him however large the crowd may have been. Considering that most of them were attentive, there must have been silence that guaranteed the message reaching home uninterrupted probably because of noise.
He chose strategic places where he would teach or preach
In some instances, Jesus would simply get inside a boat, launch a little bit into the sea and preach to the multitudes that followed him. In addition, he would go to a high place such as when he was giving the sermon on the mount. The synagogue was another place where he would preach. All these places were strategic and must have provided good meeting points. They were the amphitheatres of those times.
He was divinely enabled to preach even to multitudes
Jesus being the Son of God must have been divinely enabled to preach to as many people as possible. He would not need a microphone. According to the prevailing circumstances of those times, preaching would definitely be possible even to multitudes. But apart from physical strength, Jesus as well as the apostles had divine enablement to carry out their mandate.
Which is the largest crowd you have ever spoken to without a microphone? Most preachers today may not be in the capacity to preach without a microphone to the congregants in their large auditoriums.
Thanks to technological advancement which has made all this possible. In fact, most sermons now reach the multitudes via the internet given that most people in the modern world have access to the internet.
