A visually impaired middle-aged man, identified as Lateef Mustapha, revealed his life journey to the BBC Yoruba during a recent interview.
In a conversation with a BBC reporter, Lateef Mustapha, a resident of Ikere, Osun state, revealed that his condition was not brought on by witchcraft, as some may have believed, but rather by his youth and extreme illness, which prevented him from receiving eye surgery and caused him to lose his sight. His uncle forced him to stay in school until primary four as a result of this circumstance, but he eventually dropped out owing to other difficulties.
He however stated that he made up his mind to learn about generators and grinding machine repairs after he left the primary, as he believed nothing is impossible to learn and do with God’s help.
Lateef Mustapha noted that repairing generators and grinding machines is also like a misery to himself, as many people never believe a physically challenged person can do such work, and people in his town have always praised him for doing a good job after he helped them fix their items.
