The Most Dangerous Woman in the Bible is Not Jezebel or Delilah, Checkout who it is

The Most Dangerous Woman In The Bible, Check Out Who It Is

The most dangerous woman in the Bible is a sensitive subject and I will be making a top ten list of the women in the Bible who qualify to be called the most dangerous. However, when we talk about the most dangerous woman, many would quickly imagine a character like Jezebel or Delilah, but these characters are not as dangerous as the character you are about to read about. The characters mentioned above are simply women who had the ability to influence men through their beauty and the love of these men for them. However, the character in this article is one who is so powerful spiritually that she was able to conjure the spirit of a dead Prophet.

It is one thing to convince your husband to get someone killed or to have a strong man defeated through your knowledge of his weakness, it is also another thing to be able to reach into the spiritual sphere which I must say is quite dangerous and extremely unpredictable, that you are able retrieve the soul of a dead man and not just any dead man but the soul of a powerful prophet who many feared and respected. This dangerous woman isn’t your average woman, nor is she a queen or a beauty queen, she is the witch of Endor.

If you haven’t heard of the witch of Endor, then you should be prepared, her story is a very interesting one. Walk with me;

According to the Hebrew Bible, the Witch of Endor is a woman, a powerful one, that Saul consulted to summon the spirit of Samuel in order to receive directions on what to do about the attacking Phillistines. Sual had earlier consulted God through righteous means like Prophets but it was to no avail. Perhaps because Paul was at this point on the bad side of God. You would think that the witch should be considered the most dangerous and famously powerful in the Bible but she is hardly spoken of. I sometimes cringe when I listen to people discuss dangerous women in the Bible and they fail to mention her. I just find her story very interesting. Let’s go a little bit further…

The witch of Endor made her appearance in the old testament in 1 Samuel 28:3–25. She is a female sorcerer who was instrumental in Saul’s communication with the spirit of Samuel. The interesting thing about her story is that she was not just a sorcerer, she was one who had earlier been banished from her community. Recall that Saul had earlier banished all sorcerers from his kingdom. However, he was concerned about the outcome of the war with the Phillistines that he had to seek out the services of someone with a familiar spirit.

In Saul’s search for an answer, he heard the advise of one his servants who told him about a certain woman of Endor. He then disguised himself and visited her that night, he asked that she conjure up the spirit of Prophet Samuel to give him directives on the battle ahead of him. What I don’t understand is why Saul couldn’t have simply asked that she looked into the future for him. It almost seemed as though Saul wanted to test her authenticity through the spirit of a trusted Mentor, Samuel.

Being a powerful conjurer that she was, she summoned the spirit of Samuel who was immediately identified by Saul himself. The spirit then informed Saul that he and his three sons would die in battle the next day and that the Israelites would fall to the philistine.

The interesting story of the witch of Endor made it into the imagination of so many writers and film makers that she has been portrayed in several manners and her ability as a necromancy has made rounds in several story telling.

What makes her extremely dangerous?

The witch of Endor is perceived as extremely dangerous that she ranks among the most dangerous or perhaps the most dangerous due to her abilities as a sorcerer, a conjurer and a witch. Imagine the power you will have to possess to be able to summon the spirit of a Prophet. It goes beyond basic necromancy, beyond just summoning the spirit of a nobody. It must be specifically dangerous for her to be able to engage in such tasking mission. You wonder why and how I know it would have been quite tough? Well, the spirit she summoned was that of Samuel! I mean Samuel.

Another thing that makes her quite dangerous is her ranking among Conjurer. Now imagine that a king needs an herbalist or a pastor. His servants wouldn’t dare recommend a mediocre pastor or herbalist, he would definitely recommend the most powerful and famous one to the king. This is exactly how it would have been for Saul. His servants wouldn’t have even dared to recommend a mediocre Conjurer. This speaks loudly about her rank, and her ability.

Did she really summon Samuel?

There are debates about the spirit the Witch of Endor summoned, the interesting thing about this debate is the fact that many have reached the consensus that she would have been unable to summon a powerful prophet like Samuel. So the question has always been quite simple, if it wasn’t Samuel who or what was it?

The spirit could have truly been that of Samuel but what if it wasn’t, what if it was a being disgiused as Samuel. It wouldn’t be the first time a spirit would disguise itself to be another spirit. Especially the spirits of Demons who pretend to be spirits of humans. The Bible reminds us that “even the devil can disguise as an angel of light”. This is a testimony to the fact that demonic spirits can manipulate our sight to view them as genuine spirits.

I once read about a ritual that involves calling spirits out of their grave to avenge their own death. It makes such little sense with my belief that spirits of the dead, cannot communicate with the mortal realm. Well until I realized that it is the spirit of those who die in christ that are untouchable. I will be discussing this in my next article.

  1. So interesting, please continue because I need to know why the spirit of Samuel was called upon since you said at the last phrase that it’s only the spirit of the children of God that can be untouchable, so why the spirit of Samuel?

  2. I’m not really sure one can mix and match the persons in the Bible with secular notions of how God works. Nor, do I think that overlaying marginal notions of similarity can or should be applied to a biblical context, i.e., that a “spirit is the same thing as a angel,” and this is especially true when taken outside a biblical context.
    Finally, trying to psychoanalyze one of the biblical authors, i.e., “…what was he talking about when he said, for example, “spirit of Samuel?” is never a good idea. So, I think one has to assume that if the bible says “spirit of Samuel was called upon,” it was actually Samuel’s spirit and not a misconception or trick of some kind by one or more of the the authors because the logic of the Bible is always understandable, so trying to read something in to it (something it does not say–unless you are trying to sell an idea of your own in which case, if you are honest, you will make clear)–something that does not follow the intended logic of the passage–as seen here–is a mistake.
