TREM Devotional 27 November 2022 – It is Not Every Battle That You Fight

TOPIC: It Is Not Every Battle That You Fight (TREM Devotional 27 November 2022)

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV)

MESSAGE:

Child of God there is nothing wrong with crying when it hurts. But when you cry, blow your noise and dry your tears. You have cried enough; it is time to rise up and do something. David was in that type of situation.

Overnight he lost everything: wives, children and properties. The people that he raised saw him as their enemy and spoke about stoning him.

The Complexity Of The Battle You Face Provides An Opportunity To See The Might Of God - Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo

There comes a time even the people that you raised will see you as their enemy. People that you fed, the people you encouraged, the people you blessed in diverse ways, people who had been part and parcel of your life.

The same people turn around to stab you in the back. They turn around to disappoint you, they turn around to afflict you, they turn around to accuse you, and at times some of them even go a step further to try to kill you.

What do you do in a situation like that? David did not fight with them but encouraged himself in the Lord. You must choose your battles in life. It is not every battle that you must fight. Many people are trying too hard to defend themselves in times of challenge, in times of difficulties, in times of pressure and they are distracted and they lose focus on what God is planning for them.

They end up fighting the wrong battle and spend energy in the wrong places. You must choose your battles. This is one of the things that I found in the scripture. I remember when David’s brothers tried to discourage him from fighting Goliath.

David didn’t chastise them or continue to argue with them trying to make them believe in him, he simply walked away. There are battles you walk away from; you don’t stay there to fight. The fight that you fought does not make you superior, it does not elevate you, promotion only comes from God. It’s only God that elevates.
