Violence in Jos As EndSARS Protests turns into Religious Crises
Reports of news about the turn of events in the #ENDSARS protest which is aimed at checking police brutality in Nigeria have alleged that the protest have turned violent in Jos the Plateau state capital.
The sudden turn of events came when some alleged hoodlums hijacked the protest and began to vandalize the properties and burn cars of traders in the ever busy Ahmadu Bello Way which is the economic and business hub of the city.
After hours of reports about the violent attacks, residents of Jos began to report new developments on the violent attacks on the social media with many claiming that the violence have turned into a religious crisis.
Ahmadu Bello Way, the Economic epicenter of Jos is a boiling pot with many people from different areas in Nigeria but predominantly the Hausa settlers who are predominantly Muslims and the indigenous people who are predominantly Christians. The result of the fragile nature of the city center coupled with decades of history of unhealthy relationship between the two religions have led the protest to take the shape of a crisis because as it appeared, some parties in the city see the #ENDSARS protest as a witch hunt against the current government of the state led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari whom they support.
Prince Rotdunna Sekat, a supporter of the APC government who have opposed the #ENDSARS protest from the very beginning have posted on his social media page that the protest have turned into a religious crisis, a position which many of his friends commenting under his post agreed with.
Other social media users such as Paula Paul who expressed her dismay at the turn of events wrote on her social media page
“I just knew those Hausa hudlums were itching for trouble. They have a way of turning everything bad. God help our state”
The Plateau state government have not issued any official statement yet.
