Couple on their honeymoon in Spain saves 20 babies from a burning building

A couple on their honeymoon in Spain saves 20 infants from a burning building.

Many infants were saved from a burning building in Barcelona thanks to a honeymooning couple from Rhode Island.

Last month, Doran Smith and David Squillante of Bristol, Rhode Island, celebrated their honeymoon in Spain, which had been postponed for almost two years because to the COVID-19 outbreak, as reported by CBN News.

The two 38-year-olds were taking in the sights of Barcelona Park on a picturesque tour when they came upon a group of ladies fleeing a burning structure.

Smith said to WJAR-TV, “I noticed a flame shooting out of the entryway adjacent to the door that these ladies had came out of.” “Then I said, “Oh my God, a fire!”

Squillante acted swiftly since both his father and grandfather were firemen in Bristol. When he went inside, he saw that it was really a nursery with several infants. Not only that, but he also discovered that no one there could speak English.

He reflected that “instinct took control.” I counted fifteen to twenty sleeping infants and we quickly began lining them up, collecting them, and placing them in cribs.

As smoke filled the premises from what seemed to be an electrical fire, the couple and many other witnesses worked together to save all of the kids inside.

It was “simply hauling cribs with a couple babies in [them] and dragging them across the street to the high school lobby,” Smith said.

According to TODAY, Squillante estimates that the incident lasted 10 minutes but said it only seemed like a second.

It was like something out of a movie, he remarked. To paraphrase, “It didn’t ring true.”

But things worked out OK in the end, you know,” Squillante said.

As soon like the fire department came, the couple continued on with their trip “as if it were a typical day.”

The experience was “crazy,” as Smith put it.
