Lagos, Ogun, Others No Longer have a choice but to Reopen Churches : Bishop Oyedepo

Lagos, Ogun and other states of the federation yet to allow worship services in Churches and other religious house no longer have any choice but to do so.

Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel stated this on Saturday morning at the Covenant Hour of Prayer service of the Church in Otta, Ogun state broadcast live.

According to him, almost twenty states have already approved the reopening of churches following the gradual relaxation of ban on movements and social gathering across the country.

“ They no longer have a choice since others have done so,” he stated.

Some states, including Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kano, Ebonyi and others have allowed the reopening of religious centres based on some agreed guidelines, though the federal government has warned against hurried re-opening and violation of the COVID-19 protocol.

He also noted that the reopening of Churches, Mosques and synagogues in the United States by President Donald Trump is commendable.

“This is how God has been humiliating the noisome pestilence of Coronavirus worldwide. Every part of the world would soon be totally free from the disease and it will be gone into oblivion.

” Very soon the fear the pestilence will be no more. The world will be liberated and Nigeria will be free,” Bishop Oyedepo who has been vehement in his call for reopening of Churches for worship declared.

He recently said the continuous of Churches was meant to stall the growth of the Church.

According to him, while the authorities insisting on the ban may not know it, the devil was behind preventing allowing church members access to normal spiritual gathering.

He faulted the opening of markets and some other places while the Church remained closed noting that the Church is safer than the places where people are now allowed to gather.

On Thursday, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed that professional groups and faith-based organisations, including churches and mosques, have been asked to submit guidelines for reopening to review and advice.

Speaking during the press conference of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 he said the guidelines have to come the organisations concerned for NCDC to advice on the best way to go about it.

Some state governors have already approved the reopening of churches in their states while some are meeting with leaders to agree on the modalities.
