One of the last words of Jesus to us was that in this world we would have tribulation, but we should be of good cheer because he has overcome the world. I would like to state categorically that Jesus did not say we are exempted from experiencing terrible things just because we became Christians. However, we have a different approach as he has already overcome for us, so we face the tribulations from a point of victory.
I have heard Bishop David Oyedepo say that it is not unscriptural to be challenged, but it is unscriptural to be defeated. He said that when something seems to be subduing you, it is a sign that your faith in that area is not built up, because when faith is present, it subdues.
Yes, we overcome by our faith in Jesus, and I have seen people come out of terminal diseases because they believed God would heal them. But we should take the stance of the three Hebrew boys and still trust God, whether or not he delivers us.
Faith comes by knowledge, so the greater your knowledge of the object of your faith (in this case it’s God), the stronger your faith will get. If you study God’s word, your knowledge of God will increase, and your faith will be strong in any area of your life to subdue your challenges. Be blessed.
