Woman Narrates How Fake Clergyman Hypnotised Her, Stole Her Belongings

A housewife, Becky Ogaga, told an Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, that a man, Johnson Onoja, hypnotized and stole her money and phone.

Ogaga made the allegation while testifying during the resumed trial of the defendant and his accomplice Sunday Abusheye on charges of criminal conspiracy, fraudulently obtaining a decree for sum not due, theft and cheating.

Led in evidence by the Prosecution Counsel, Abudulahi Tanko, Ogaga alleged that the incident happened on Oct. 25, 2021.

“On my way to park road junction, the defendant met me and told me that God loves me.

“He said God wants to bless me and that I should buy and give out some biscuits.

“The second defendant (Abusheye) later joined us in the conversation. Onoja asked us to go somewhere with him.

“That was the last thing I remembered. I handed over my N3,900 and my phone to the second defendant without knowing,” she said.

She said that on Nov. 9, 2021 on her way back from the market while on a motorcycle she saw the two defendants.

During cross-examination, the defendants who had no counsel where asked to examine the witness.

The first defendant asked the witness if she normally gives money to men of God.

She replied: I don’t know what you used to charm me. You took I my phone and money

After listening to the testimony, Judge, Malam Sani Umar admitted the defendants who have been remanded since Nov. 11, 2021 to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Umar ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, must provide 2 recent passport photograph and means of identification.

He adjourned the case until March 23 for hearing.
