6 Prayers for Gratitude

An Attitude of Gratitude: 6 Prayers

We have the wonderful chance to set our thoughts and hearts on the Lord as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a chance to reflect on everything that God has accomplished in your life and in the world, and to be still before Him. There is always something to be grateful for in the eyes of the Lord, no matter how bad things may seem at the moment.

  1. Household Prayers

Please, Holy Father

We worship you in this place to give thanks for the blessing of family. You, as our Father, have advanced the fundamental concept of family. There is the gift of family in the form of those who call You Abba, Father, and there is the gift of family in the form of those who are connected to us by DNA, but for those who follow God, we know that family is not confined to those who are related to us merely by blood. Holy God, we give thanks for the importance of family and the fact that, in many scenarios, friends may be more reliable than blood relatives (Proverbs 18:24). Thank You, Lord, for caring for Your children and the people You’ve placed in our lives. Those who wish for dependable loved ones to surround them are also in our prayers. We ask that You unite those who love You in one another through the power of Your Holy Spirit so that they may serve You as one.

In the Name of Jesus,
Amen

Please, Holy Father

We came before you now to offer our sincerest gratitude for 2018. Despite the harshness of the weather, there are still pockets of Your goodness, Light, and love that we may seek out. We know that the Enemy‘s deception that difficult circumstances equate a dreadful season, year, or period is not true, and the Enemy does not have the last word. Help us remember John 16:33, “I have spoken these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation; but take heart; I have conquered the world,” on those days when it’s extremely difficult to keep going.

In the Name of Jesus,
Amen

  1. Thanksgiving and Praise

Please, Holy Father

It is with gratitude for all the blessings You have bestowed upon us that we stand before You today. Knowing that “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows,” we thank You, Holy God, for being a good Father and have no desire to add to Your blessings. It is because of Your generosity that we are able to appreciate the simplest of blessings, like a loving embrace or even simply a day with food on the table.

In the Name of Jesus,
Amen

  1. Congregational Prayer

Please, Holy Father

We want to thank You from the bottom of our hearts for the amazing blessing that is our community. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others (Romans 12:4-5). As members of the Body of Christ, we are not only invited but called to worship You in fellowship. This is a wonderful blessing because it allows us to share in each other’s lives, help carry each other’s load, and show love to others in the way that You have commanded. You recognized the importance of belonging to a group in the Garden of Eden, and we are grateful that this sense of fellowship has endured to the present day in the Church.

  1. A Prayer for the Change of Seasons

Please, Holy Father

We appreciate the change of seasons that You provide. While it is true that “there is a time for everything,” as King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3:1, and that “a season is a time for every action under heaven,” we also know that with each passing season comes unforeseen possibilities and experiences. Let us think about Isaiah 43:18-19: “Do not dwell on the past; do not plan for the future; do not give thought to the things of old.” Look, I’m up to something fresh; see it bursting out right before your eyes! There will be rivers in the desert and paths through the woods “Lord, we are so thankful to be a part of this new thing You are doing, and we praise You that You go before us and walk with us every step of the way, just as You have done in the past.

  1. A Prayer for His Loyalty

Please, Holy Father

Consider the Israelites in Joshua 3 and 4 as they prepared to enter the Promised Land: Lord, even though the Jordan River was at flood levels, You parted the waters, and the people walked across on dry land. You kept Your promise that Your people would enter the land, and You provided the way through, step by step “Please, Lord, help us to remember the ways in which You have impacted our own lives (take a moment to praise Him for three places You have seen Him move in the past). We believe in You, our Good God, and know that You are always with us.
In the Name of Jesus,
Amen

A new practice of thanksgiving is something we may start here as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches and throughout the months to follow. Although we often find ourselves in a position to petition God for blessings, how often do we take the time to thank Him for being Who He is and doing What He has already done? Make it a habit to thank God for one to three things every morning when you wake up and again before you go to sleep. Truthful acclaim is in order for him.
