EARLY LIFE

Singer-songwriter Onoriode Ebiere Ariyo, also known as Onos Ariyo, is from Nigeria. She is well known for the critically acclaimed song “Alagbara” that Nigerian music producer Wilson Joel wrote and created. She was included in the Global Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent in September 2018. (MIPAD).

Onos was born in Delta State in southern Nigeria, where she completed her primary and secondary education before enrolling at Delta State University, Abraka, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French. Onos started singing in primary school and was a member of several choirs and groups before moving to Lagos in 2004 and starting to record her first official single, “Dance,” which was produced by FLO.

Career

Following the success of her debut single “Dance,” Onos has headlined several gospel events in Nigeria, including The Experience – Lagos, which has been dubbed the world’s largest gospel event.At this event, she performed alongside a number of well-known gospel performers from around the world, including Travis Greene, Kirk Franklin, and Donnie McClurkin.


Onos’ big break came with the release of her 2014 album No Limits, which featured the breakout hits Alagbara and Everything Has Changed. Keep Moving, Onos’ debut album, was released in 2010 and featured the songs Dance and Na Your Love, as well as Jamaican international gospel singer, Chevelle Franklyn. The success of the album, as well as the single Alagbara, led to her nomination for several awards in the Gospel category.

In 2015, she became the Nigerian coordinator for the Women of African Origin in Music Ministry (WAOMM), under which platform she mentors and nurtures up-coming female gospel artistes. In 2012, Onos convened the For the Love of the Season, a music and style scene show that brings together the fashion and music industry. In 2018, she began hosting a monthly live worship event titled B R E A T H E.
In 2017 she released her third studio album, Songs from the Place of Prayer to rave reviews.
On 28 July 2019, she released her fourth studio album, Breathe on music streaming service Boomplay.

Awards and recognition

Since making her entry into the music industry, Onos has been nominated for a number of prizes. She was recognized as the best female vocalist in 2012 at the Nigeria Gospel Music Awards and again in 2013 at the Crystal Awards. She won the Female Gospel Artist of the Year Eloy Awards and the Wise Women Awards in the Woman in Music category in 2015, respectively. In 2018, she took home the Female Artist of Excellence Award from the UK’s African Gospel Music Awards.
Onos and other MIPAD honorees attended the “Celebration of Excellence” Gong closing event in August 2018, which was held by the Nigerian stock market. Namadi Sambo, a former vice president of Nigeria, was also present.
